DayZ Original is a community of DayZ servers (PC, Steam): Chernarus, Livonia, Sakhal and Nasdara. It is an international and multilingual community, not just French-speaking: the website, the FAQ and in-game messages are available in 13 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese).
On our servers: Friendly and Bandit factions with a karma system, PvP and PvE zones, faction enclaves, dynamic PvP zones, hordes and events. On the website: live map, leaderboards, profiles, objectives and badges, puzzles, player-to-player marketplace and rubles (100% virtual currency). To play, see ‘How do I join a server?’ below.
Click Sign in with Steam at the top of the site. You'll be redirected to the official Steam page, where you confirm your identity: the site never sees your password and doesn't store any.
Your DayZ Original account is created automatically the first time you sign in, based on your Steam ID. That same ID links the site to your in-game character: everything you do on our servers (stats, objectives, rubles, karma) is tied to your account without you having to do anything.
The servers are displayed at the top of the site, along with their status (online or offline) and the number of players. Click on a server's name: Steam launches DayZ and connects you to it directly.
Before your first connection, subscribe to our Workshop collection (Workshop link in the menu): DayZ will automatically download all the required mods, including the DayZ Original mod, which displays the HUD, the faction badge and new actions such as "Give rubles".
No. The server records your stats under your Steam ID, even if you don't have an account on the site yet. Objectives, daily objectives and rewards earned in the meantime are set aside for you, and your rubles are already paid out: you can see them in your in-game HUD.
The day you log in to the site for the first time, everything is automatically carried over to your account: badges, completed objectives and history.
In My space › Profile info, you can set the name other players will know you by. It replaces your Steam username everywhere: on the site, in the killfeed, in the leaderboards, and in-game when another survivor targets you.
If you are part of a group, its tag is automatically displayed in front of your name, for example [DZO] Survivor. Names must follow the rules: no insults, no impersonating another player or the team.
Profile and account
Yes: your player profile is visible to everyone. It shows your name, your group, your faction, your survival stats, your badges, your objectives and your eliminations. This lets others see your journey and find you.
However, your rouble balance remains private: you are the only one who can see it, both on the website and in your HUD.
In My space › Profile info, you can:
In My space › Settings, you choose the language, the site theme and your notifications.
The site is fully translated into 13 languages. Your language is detected automatically on your first visit, and you can change it at any time in your settings. News, events and help pages are translated too.
In-game, everything follows your DayZ language: new actions, the HUD, server messages, staff announcements and reward messages. Every player receives the same message, each in their own language.
You stay in control of your data. In My space › Settings › My data, you can download everything the site keeps about you, and delete your account at any time.
Details about the data processed, how long it is kept, and your rights can be found on the Legal notice and privacy page.
Community
The site includes private messaging. The right sidebar shows connected players, both on the site and in-game. Click on a player to open a chat window, which stays open while you browse the rest of the site.
Every message can be translated instantly into your language with a single click: you can chat with players from all over the world, each writing in their own language.
From a player's profile page, send them a friend request. Once it's accepted, they'll appear in the Friends tab of your profile, and you can follow their activity and contact them quickly.
Requests you receive show up in your notifications, and you can remove a friend at any time.
In My space › Group, create your group by giving it a name, a 2 to 4 character tag and an alignment: Friendly, Bandit or mixed. The alignment determines which players can join the group. A player can only belong to one group at a time.
The tag is displayed in front of each member's name, both on the website and in-game. The group has its own public page, which combines its members' stats, and it takes part in the group leaderboard. The top three groups of the month are rewarded.
The bell at the top of the site gathers all your notifications: messages, friend requests, unlocked badges, rubles received, events… The most important ones also pop up live as a small window while you're on the site.
You can choose what you want to receive in your settings.
On a player's profile or on a message, use the Report button. Briefly describe the problem: your report is sent directly to the team, who have access to the server logs and the killfeed to verify it.
You can also reach the team on our Discord. Possible sanctions are detailed in the Rules.
Objectives and leaderboards
Objectives automatically track what you do in-game: zombies killed, animals hunted, distance traveled, survival time, kills, special actions… Each objective has several tiers. Reaching one earns you a badge, often some rubles, and sometimes karma.
Some objectives reset every day, week, or month: you can start them over and try your luck again each period. You can track your progress in the Objectives tab of your profile.
Every day, a set of short objectives is offered to all players. They reset at midnight (Paris time), and each one can only be completed once per day.
Among them, the daily objective, drawn at random and the same for everyone, offers a multiplied reward. Daily earnings are capped: consistency pays off more than long sessions.
Badges are earned by reaching objective milestones. They are counted in monthly seasons: every month, the counter resets and you can earn them all again.
Each badge awards points, which determine the monthly leaderboard. The top players of the month receive a special rank badge that stays on their profile. Badges look different depending on your faction (Friendly or Bandit).
The Leaderboards page offers two views:
You can filter by server and by time period. The killfeed (Kills) shows the latest player kills, with the weapon and distance, and your profile shows who has killed you the most: your nemesis.
Almost in real time. The server sends your actions in small batches roughly every ten seconds, and the site processes them every minute to recalculate stats, objectives, badges and leaderboards.
In practice, an in-game action shows up on the site within one to two minutes. If a server restarts, pending data is kept and sent on the next startup: nothing is lost.
Rubles
Rubles are the currency of DayZ Original. They are 100% virtual: they can't be bought with real money and can't be sold. Any exchange of rubles for real money is prohibited by the rules.
You earn them by completing objectives and daily objectives, taking part in events, eliminating wanted players (bounties), and soon by solving puzzles. You can use them to pay other players, in-game or on the website. More uses are on the way, such as renting buildings.
Your balance is visible:
The balance is the same everywhere and on every server: it's a single wallet, linked to your Steam account.
Walk up to another survivor, aim at them and choose the "Give rubles" action. A small window opens so you can enter the amount. The server checks everything (distance, balance, identity of both players) before making the transfer, then you each receive a confirmation and your HUDs update.
It's ideal for in-game bartering: paying for an item, a service, an escort… Make sure to pay only once the deal is done: a transfer cannot be reversed.
Yes. In My Space › Wallet, enter the player's name, the amount and an optional message, then confirm. The transfer is instant, even if the recipient isn't online, and it shows up in both players' history.
No: there are no fees, no taxes and no caps, whether for transfers or for your balance.
Every transaction is recorded only once, even if the network drops: a transfer can never be counted twice.
Karma and factions
You choose your faction on your first login to the site: Friendly (protective survivor) or Bandit (proud predator). You can change it once every 90 days, in My Account › Faction.
No faction is "the good guys": both Friendly and Bandit have karma, and each can be a good or bad player within their faction. What makes the difference is where and who you eliminate (see "How to be a good Bandit?" and "How to be a good Friendly?").
Your faction determines the color of your badges, the title of your rank, the karma rules that apply to you, and the groups you can join. In-game, a colored marker (blue for Friendly, red for Bandit) appears when another player is targeting you.
Karma measures your reputation, from 0 to 100%, whether you're Friendly or Bandit. In game, you don't see this percentage but the rank that corresponds to it (see "What are ranks for?"): so you need to learn to recognize the names. Everyone starts as Survivor (Friendly) or Marauder (Bandit), at 50%.
It's based on a simple idea: player-versus-player combat happens in PvP zones.
Healing another survivor also raises your karma. Killing someone in a PvE zone always lowers it, as does killing a member of your own group.
Karma has a concrete effect: it multiplies the rubles earned from objectives, in a U shape: ×1.5 at both extremes (0% and 100%), ×1 in the middle (50%). A committed outlaw earns as much as a hero. Low karma also comes with its own outlaw objectives, and a survival bounty at the very bottom. Your karma, your rank, the rank ladder and your faction's scale (what each kill earns or costs you, depending on the zone and the victim's rank) are shown in My space. Your rank also appears on your public profile. After a week with no gains or losses, it slowly drifts back toward Survivor / Marauder (50%).
Being a Bandit doesn't mean killing anyone, anywhere.
A Bandit who kills outside PvP zones sees their karma plummet: they become a Flayer (10 to 29%), then a Death Eater (0 to 9%). At that point, they are the Friendlies' target, who earn a bounty for taking them down, even outside PvP zones.
Your faction's exact scale is shown in My space, and each server's PvP zones on the Map.
The Friendly protects survivors, but is allowed to fight.
A Friendly who kills innocents outside PvP zones becomes Lost (10 to 29%), then Renegade (0 to 9%): they in turn become a target, for Bandits and Friendlies alike.
Your faction's exact scale is shown in My space, and each server's PvP zones on the Map.
It all depends on where it happens and on your victim's reputation:
| Where | Victim | Effect on your karma |
|---|---|---|
| PvP zone | any player | increase, whatever your faction |
| Outside PvP zone | player with bad karma: Friendly Lost Soul / Renegade, Bandit Flayer / Death Eater (below 30%) | increase (no loss for a Friendly who kills a Friendly Lost Soul or Renegade), plus a bounty in rubles for a Friendly who kills a Bandit, or for a Bandit who kills a Friendly |
| Outside PvP zone | player with good reputation: Survivor, Protector, Guardian / Marauder, Mercenary, Warlord (30% and above) | decrease, larger if the victim is highly respected |
| PvE zone | any player | sharp decrease |
| Anywhere | member of your own group | decrease |
The exact values for your faction, bounty included, are shown in the scale in My space. The team may adjust them over time: the displayed scale is authoritative. The server's latest kills can be seen on the Kills page.
Beyond the basic rule (zone and victim's rank), several circumstances come into play:
| Situation | Effect on your karma |
|---|---|
| Outside a PvP zone, killing a freshly spawned player (they just respawned, a few minutes ago) | additional decrease |
| Outside a PvP zone, killing an unarmed player (nothing in hand) | additional decrease |
| Executing a handcuffed player, anywhere | sharp decrease |
| Repeat offense: each penalized kill in the last 24 h makes the next one heavier | increased loss (capped) |
| Streak in a PvP zone: from the 3rd kill without dying | increasing bonus (capped) |
| Handcuffing a survivor | increase for a Bandit; decrease for a Friendly, unless the target is Lost / Renegade or Flayer / Death Eater (below 30%) |
| Freeing a handcuffed survivor | increase for a Friendly |
| Healing another survivor | increase (daily limit), boosted below 30% (Lost / Renegade, Flayer / Death Eater): this is the path to redemption |
| Being present on site during an event | increase, once per event |
| Neutralizing a contamination hotspot (last infected taken down) | increase for a Friendly |
These rules stack with one another. The exact values for your faction are shown in the scale in My space, with a tooltip on each line; the team may adjust them over time.
Your karma gives you a rank specific to your faction:
| Friendly Rank | Bandit Rank | Karma | Reputation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guardian | Warlord | (90 to 100%) | respected by all |
| Protector | Mercenary | (70 to 89%) | good |
| Survivor | Marauder | (30 to 69%) | average, starting rank (50%) |
| Stray | Flayer | (10 to 29%) | bad: target |
| Renegade | Death Eater | (0 to 9%) | very bad: target |
Your rank appears after your name when another survivor aims at you in-game, for example "[TAG] Name – Rank", as well as on your profile and in My Space, where the full rank scale for your faction is displayed. In the Leaderboards, the ring around each player's avatar shows their karma. A quick glance is enough to know who you're dealing with: the two bottom ranks, Stray / Renegade and Flayer / Death Eater (below 30%), mark the targets that can be killed outside PvP zones without losing karma.
Karma and objectives are two separate things: a kill can lower your karma and still count toward an objective, or vice versa.
Each kill objective specifies what it counts in its description (visible in the Objectives tab of your profile, along with your progress): all kills, only kills made in a PvP zone, only Bandits, or only "legitimate" kills (in a PvP zone, or of a Bandit wherever they are). Some objectives are restricted to a single faction.
A kill with a vehicle, an explosive or a trap counts just like one with any other weapon, for objectives as well as for karma. The method used is still shown on the Kills page.
A bounty is a reward in rubles for eliminating a target:
The bounty is increased based on the target's recent misdeeds: the more innocents they've killed in the last 30 days, the more they're worth. An in-game message lets you know about the bounty as soon as it's paid out; it also shows up in My space › Wallet.
This is how justice is served on our servers: sowing chaos outside PvP zones comes at a price.
In-game
The HUD appears at the bottom right of the screen, just above the hunger and thirst icons. It shows:
It hides along with the game's icons (menus, HUD toggle key). It requires the DayZ Original mod, included in our Workshop collection.
When aiming at another survivor, you can see their name (with their group tag), their rank, and a colored dot showing their faction. You can also give them rubles using the new dedicated action.
More actions are coming with upcoming features, such as building rentals. All of them are translated into your game's language.
Yes. Type /help in the chat to get the list of commands available on the server you're playing on. The response appears in your chat, and only you can see it.
Commands may vary from one server to another and change over time.
As soon as you receive a reward (objective, daily objective, badge, event, bounty…), a message appears in-game in your language, showing the amount of rubles and karma earned. A notification also awaits you on the website.
Announcements from the team (restarts, events, information) also appear in-game.
Hordes and zones
These are groups of zombies that spawn regularly at set locations on the map, always away from players, and far apart from one another. They're made for letting off steam: they come in all sizes, from small packs to massive hordes.
They despawn on their own after a while, or as soon as they're wiped out, and then new ones spawn elsewhere.
This is a special type of horde: an infection outbreak starts with just a few infected, then grows at regular intervals and keeps spreading as long as any of them remain alive. Nearby players are alerted when it appears and whenever it spreads.
To stop it, you have to eliminate all the infected in the outbreak. The longer you wait, the harder it gets!
PvP zones are designated combat areas, open to both factions. Every kill made there raises your karma, whether you're Friendly or Bandit: this is where player-versus-player combat takes place.
Outside these zones, killing a player with a good reputation lowers your karma; only players with bad karma remain valid targets: Friendly Stray or Renegade, Bandit Flayer or Death Eater (below 30%) (see the “Karma and factions” section).
A message warns you when you enter or leave a zone, and the PvP icon lights up in your HUD. All zones on each server are shown on the Map.
It is a temporary PvP zone that regularly changes location: it appears, lasts for a while, then disappears to reappear somewhere else, randomly picked from several places chosen by the team (towns, military bases, airfields…). The goal: vary the combat locations instead of always fighting in the same spots.
While it is active, the rules of a PvP zone apply: any elimination there raises your karma. The guide Understanding zones has more details.
Yes. Some zones prohibit building: you can't place a tent, a crate or a base there. The game's contaminated zones are indicated by the radiation icon on your HUD.
More zones are coming soon: PvE zones and faction enclaves (see the "Coming soon" section).
Events
Events are announced in News › Event and on the home page. Open an event to see its date, server, location and reward, then click Participate to sign up.
When it starts, the event is announced in-game. Be on site during the event: at the end, every participant present in the zone automatically receives the announced reward.
Our events can spawn new set pieces directly on the map: camps, ruins, roadblocks, bases to capture… Depending on the event, they stay for a few hours or until the next restart.
This lets us run both flash events and long-running events, without permanently altering the map.
Live Map
The Map page shows each server with its points of interest, its zones (PvP, contaminated…) and ongoing activities, such as events and hordes. It updates automatically, so you can decide where to go before you even log in.
Only legend entries with at least one item on the map are displayed, to keep things easy to read.
Thanks to the in-game GPS. Equip a GPS with a charged battery and turn it on, either in your hands or in your inventory. Once you're logged in to the website, you'll see your position on the map, updated every 10 seconds.
Members of your group whose GPS is turned on also show up. Nobody else can ever see you. And if your GPS is off or out of battery, you can't see anyone, not even your group.
Coming soon
Coming soon. Riddles will be hidden on our servers. Clues will be revealed over time: one new clue per day, or as players find them.
Depending on the riddle, you'll need to type the answer on the website or perform the right action in the right place in-game. The fastest players will win roubles, and sometimes an exclusive badge.
Coming soon. Territories will be reserved for each faction. Faction members will feel right at home there: a flag in their colors will appear in their HUD, and they'll be able to meet up, trade, and rent a building or a garage safe from raids.
Players from the rival faction will be warned before entering, then will lose health for as long as they stay inside. Survivors without an account on the site will be warned and pushed back in the same way, though a little less harshly. And inside, any kill will cost as much karma as in a PvE zone.
Coming soon. In certain areas, you'll be able to rent a building (a house, a garage…) with your rubles for a set period. Depending on the building, the rental will cover either the entire building or a single door, like one garage in a row.
The rented building will be locked and indestructible for the duration of the rental. Only you will be able to open it, and you'll be able to share it with your group in a single action. You'll find your rentals in My space.
Coming soon. PvE zones will be places of peace. You'll still be free to act as you wish, but killing a player there will heavily lower your karma, whatever your faction and whoever the victim.
Some zones may also be true safe havens, where damage between players (or even all damage) will be disabled. A flag will appear in your HUD when you're in a protected zone.
Market
Drop the item into a locker in-game, then open My space › My locker and click Put up for sale.
Your rubles are held in escrow until delivery to your locker. If it fails, you're automatically refunded.
On a listing that accepts offers, propose a price. The seller can accept, decline, or make a counteroffer. An accepted offer is paid immediately.
